First footage of Saebit

For years, Saebit knew only life behind bars.

Rescued from one of South Korea’s last bear bile farms, he spent decades confined to a small metal cage, never knowing the freedom every bear deserves.

Today, Saebit is safe.

His story is one of quiet strength, growing confidence and the promise of a brighter future.

Saebit (새빛) is one of the five rescued Moon Bears at the heart of the Bears Behind Bars campaign.

His name means “New Light”, and that is exactly what his future now holds.

For years, Saebit shared a tiny cage with Huimang, quietly looking out for his smaller companion through decades of confinement.

Now, with every passing day, his confidence is beginning to grow and his personality is starting to emerge.

Like all our rescued Moon Bears, Saebit never had the chance to simply be a bear.

He had no woodland to explore, no lake to swim in and no freedom to choose where to spend his day.

Instead, he spent years behind rusting metal bars, deprived of the space, stimulation and security every bear deserves.

Despite everything, Saebit’s quiet strength has endured.

Soon, Saebit will begin an entirely new chapter.

At Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park, a purpose-built reserve is waiting to welcome him.

With shaded woodland, climbing opportunities, water, enrichment and space to explore, Saebit will finally be able to spend his days doing what bears were born to do.

For Saebit, this is more than a new chapter.

It is the first time his future has looked brighter than his past.

Saebit and his bear family have now been cleared to travel, but one final challenge remains.

We are raising the remaining funds needed to bring all five rescued Moon Bears safely to their new home in Suffolk.
