Meet the Bears
Taken from their mothers as tiny cubs, these five Moon Bears have spent their entire lives behind bars on one of South Korea’s last bear bile farms.
For more than 20 years, they were kept in small metal cages with no grass beneath their feet, no space to explore and no chance to live as bears should.
Now, for the first time, they are closer than ever to safety.
After months of care from specialist veterinary teams in South Korea, the bears have officially been cleared to travel to their forever home at Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park in Suffolk.
They will no longer be known by numbers.
They will each have a name, a story and the chance of a very different future.
As their names and stories are revealed, we will share them here.

A Journey Towards Freedom
When Jimmy first met these bears in South Korea, they were living behind bars after more than two decades in captivity.
Their rescue marked the start of an enormous mission.
Since then, Space for the Wild, Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park and supporters of the Bears Behind Bars campaign have worked to secure their release, support their recovery and prepare a purpose-built woodland reserve in Suffolk.
Thanks to the generosity of donors, private sponsors and suppliers, the campaign has already made incredible progress.
The bears are now cleared to travel.
The reserve is nearly ready.
One final step remains.
We still need to raise the final funds required to bring them safely home.

One final journey remains.
With your help, these five rescued Moon Bears can finally come home.
Now we need one final push to bring them safely home.
Every donation helps fund the final stage of their journey, including specialist air transport, bespoke travel crates, veterinary support and the final preparations for their woodland reserve at Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park.
Nearly £55,000 has already been raised.
