First footage of Huimang

For years, Huimang knew only life behind bars.

Rescued from one of South Korea’s last bear bile farms, she spent decades confined to a small metal cage, never knowing the freedom every bear deserves.

Today, Huimang is finally one step closer to a new beginning.

Her story is one of hope, resilience and quiet strength, and we cannot wait to welcome her to her new home at Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park.

Huimang (희망) is one of the five rescued Moon Bears at the heart of the Bears Behind Bars campaign.

Her name means “Hope”, and after everything she has endured, it couldn’t be more fitting.

For decades, Huimang shared a tiny cage with her brother, Saebit. Through years of hardship, they had only each other for comfort, waiting for a future that must have seemed impossible.

Now, that future is finally within reach.

Like all our rescued Moon Bears, Huimang never had the chance to simply be a bear.

She had no woodland to explore, no streams to paddle in and no freedom to decide where to spend her day.

Instead, she lived behind rusting metal bars, deprived of the space and choices every bear deserves.

Yet through it all, Huimang never lost the quiet resilience that earned her such a fitting name.

Soon, Huimang will begin an entirely new chapter.

At Jimmy’s Farm & Wildlife Park, a purpose-built reserve is waiting to welcome her.

For the first time in her life, she’ll be able to wander beneath the trees, forage through woodland and choose where she wants to spend her day.

After a lifetime with almost no choices at all, hope becomes something wonderfully simple — the freedom to choose.

We cannot wait to watch Huimang discover the life she has always deserved.

Huimang and her bear family have now been cleared to travel, but one final challenge remains.

We are raising the remaining funds needed to bring all five rescued Moon Bears safely to their new home in Suffolk.
