Save the Bears

Rebecca is a self-taught contemporary painter whose work draws inspiration from the natural world, the female form and the landscapes of the countryside. Returning to painting after a 28-year break raising her children, she uses simplified forms, strong outlines, layered colour and texture to explore our connections with one another and the natural world.

These paintings reflect my love of bears and my concern for animals facing cruelty, neglect and habitat loss. They were inspired by bears exploited by the bear-bile industry, polar bears threatened by the climate crisis, and the wider need to protect vulnerable animals. Through tenderness, colour and symbolism, I hope the work encourages empathy and reminds us of our responsibility to the natural world.
